These days, there aren’t a ton of extra hours in our household to devote to reading. There’s a regular amount of research I keep up with through various online databases and though that method works, it is time-intensive and requires a high level of attention to suss out whether the research was actually worth its salt.

On the other hand, Dr. J and I have found that there are a growing number of podcasts that are producing outstanding research and evidence-based content that’s easy to digest and put into action. If you’re short on time to read like us, but have a regular daily commute, put your smartphone to work for you and soak in some knowledge.

Here’s some of our favorites, in no particular rank order.

The Paleo Solution Podcast

The Paleo Solution Podcast is hosted by Paleo advocate Robb Wolf. Part biochemistry, part performance training, part lifestyle and sustainability, this podcast runs the gamut of all things in the spectrum of human health, performance, and longevity. This show is anything but an ode to strict Paleo, as Robb interviews a wide range of guests and even broader topics of discussion.

The Doc and Jock Podcast

doc jock cover-badgeHosted by Dr. Danny Matta, PT, DPT and Coach Joe Szymczak, this is the one stop shop for you if you’re looking to learn more about how to blend the best practices of injury rehabilitation and performance training like we do here at Restore/Thrive. Not an R-rated listen, but has some PG-13 moments. It’s dudes talking about training. Stuff slips out.

The Healthy Moms Podcast

healthy-moms-podcastFrom the Wellness Mama, Katie Wells, this pod delves deep into all things mom-related: childbirth, hormone balance, food, fitness, relationships, and more. Mainly in interview format, this show (and the Wellness Mama blog) has been a valuable resource for Dr. J and I as we’ve worked together to help her bounce back from 3 deliveries better than she was before our first showed up.

Power Athlete Radio

Power-Athlete-Radio-Album-Artwork-v2If you’re going to the gym because you want to get better in sport and life, this one is worth a listen. Another interview format pod, the Crew from Power Athlete interviews a wide range of coaches, scientists, and generally smart people. This one is all about wringing out the best performance gains from your training. Not for young ears.

Jocko Podcast

jocko podThis is the podcast of former U.S. Navy Seal Jocko Willink. A true American hero, Willink served as unit commander of Seal Team Three’s Task Unit Bruiser during the Battle of Ramadi, and received the Silver Star and the Bronze Star for his service during the Iraq War. For straight ahead, practical leadership advice, this is your pod. Jocko goes deep into war literature to pull out battlefield lessons that apply to winning the battles of everyday life. Highly recommended.
